Ranze Eto
("Ransie Lupescu" in the Italian anime) may look like your average Japanese
teenage girl, but in reality she's anything but. Her mother is a werewolf, and
her father is a vampire. Her family
was banished from the magical realm to live
on Earth among humans, and now guard the gate between the human world
and the magic world. Ranze has special powers of her own: for example, whenever
she bites anything, she can change herself into a carbon copy of that object,
whether it's another person or an inanimate object such as a piece of bread.
Only by sneezing can
she return to her normal self.
On Ranze's
first day at her new school, she meets and falls in love with the brash yet
handsome young athlete Shun Makabe ("Paul Capo" in the
Italian anime). The chief problem with this is that Ranze's parents will not
allow her to date a human - although there may be
much more to Shun than meets
the eye. On top
of this, Ranze also has a bitter rival in the pretty but spiteful Yoko Kamiya ("Liza
Thompson" in the Italian anime), the daughter of a yakuza boss, who is also in
love with Shun and doesn't take kindly to Ranze intruding on her turf.
My Friend Kinda wrote this article :
Ranzi is a Japanese anime that was aired
during the same time as Nija (a.k.a kabamaru) during the eighties, as far as I
know, in the gulf area –namely Saudi Arabia. Reruns where then again aired
during the early nineties…
The plot revolves around a teenage girl
called Ranzi. Nonetheless, she isn’t your average boy-crazy flakey
teenager struggling with the drama of her life. She comes from a family
belonging to “the other realm” (aa’lam al awham). In this “other” realm people
poses certain powers relating to mythological creatures. And though we do not
know what are ranzi’s full powers yet, we know she has the ability to
metamorphose into shapes that she bites, and we do know that her mom is a
werewolf and her father is a vampire. She has a younger brother, Renzi, who also
hasn’t developed his powers either.
The
parents were sent to the human world to find the missing son of their King.
Meanwhile they become very concerned with their semi-obsessed daughter who is in
love with her classmate Shen and who is also competing for his affection with
her well-off classmate Yoko. The other girl’s father is a single parent and is
in love with Shen’s single mom.
Generally, as you can tell, the anime
borders on soap-opera-style drama, comedy, and well… romance.
Its probably suitable for viewers age 13 and
up… but what the hey! Watch and decide….
