My first encounter with Mazinger was through comic books. I thought that he must be related to Grendizer some how. They look very much a like.

The first time I watched Mazinger was in Egypt in the summer of 1990. When I knew Mazinger, it explained to me Koji's flash back in the first episode of Grendizer when he sees mount Fuji- this did not show on the American version- Koji said "I shouldn't pilot Mazinger Z, I should pilot Tfo which was invented by humans" and you see the flash back. Who was that robot?????? After a long time, I learned it was Mazinger, after even a longer time, I learn it is Mazinger Z! I noticed that the animation was a lot poorer than Grendizer's. I belive that Gonagi started Mazinger Z some time in the late 60's and Grendizer in mid 70's, so that explains the animation.

I kinda likes the Arabic version, but I hated that they changed the names. They named Koji "Maher" What? Why???????????? They did the same with the American version, "Tommy" Come on, does this sound like a fighter pilot name? But nothing was as bad as the girl who piloted Afrodit "Sayaka", in Arabic she was "Faten" oh man oh man, just shoot me! That is one of the sweetest Arabic names in the history of Arabia. They put it in Mazinger! They should not have changed the names.

Nothing burned me up like the fact that Mazinger Z was about 92 episodes and only 27 were translated to English and Arabic! But 65 were translated to English as Tranzor Z. The Spanish speaking fans got their fair share, all the episodes were translated to Spanish! And that is not all, Mazinger goes on as a new robot called Great Mazinger! But the Pilot this time isn't Koji, it is Tetsuya.

Tetsuya, To The Arabic fans, unless you have watch Great Mazinger in Japanese, or at least watch the movie "Great Mazinger VS Grendizer" you don't have any idea who he is. The American fans on the other hand have actually seen Tetsuya in the first episode on Tranzor Z, when Tommy's grandfather was dieing and started tilling Tommy about Tranzor Z. All that footage was from Great Mazinger, and the pilot was Tetsuya.

I don't know much about Great Mazinger, I haven't seen any of his episodes. The only encounter with him was in three Japanese movies, Great Mazinger VS Grendizer, Super Robot team VS See Monster and Mazinger Z VS General Dark. The last one is the cross over movie from Mazinger Z to great Mazinger. This Movie shows the end of Mazinger Z and the appearance of Great Mazinger. That is not all, guess what? Koji's a.k.a Tommy's a.k.a Maher's Father "Dr. Kenzo Kabuto" is the one behind Great Mazinger!!!
