I watched this show back home, I knew it As Jongar. I recently learned that its real name is Astroganga. It was never available in English, Only Italian, Arabic and maybe French.

It was a short series, only 26 episodes. But it was very popular. We watched it in Saudi Arabia in the mid 80's, even that the show was made in 1973!

The deferent thing about this show is that the robot is more a live than a machine. He has his won character and not controlled by any one. Unlike other Japanese Robot shows, like Grendizer, there was no pilot, the hero was the robot!

The show was translated in Lebanon. The best thing about that is unlike other translations, the Lebanese don't change the names much. That made it easy for us to communicate with other fans.

CHARACTERS

EARTH

KANTARO: The son of Dr.Hoshi and Maia. I think he is a 10 or 11 year old school boy, fearless, kind, sensitive, and starboard. When he was born, his mother made sure that he will has a connection with astroganga. The locket on his shirt is the way of communication between him and astroganga, when he hold it up and shout (GANGA) astroganga comes down sending a ray that helps kantaro to fly and combined with him.

MAIA, KANTARO'S MOTHER: She is kantaro’s mother and the one and only survivor from the plant kintaros, which was invented by the destroyers. Originally she is a scientist and specialized in studying maddens. When she escaped from kintaros, she took with her a peace madden, this peace of madden is what create astroganga. Before Maia escapes from her plant she was hit by a beam from a destroyer

DR. HOSHI: He is kantaro’s father and a much respected space scientist, who was watching the sky when a space ship falls from the sky. He ran to it and found a woman inside her name is Maia. He took her to his house and when she woke up she told him her story and about the destroyers. After that he helped her to create astroganga.

RAAY: The only girl in kantaro’s life. Beautiful, and smart girl, but also annoying, she is always with kantaro wherever he goes. She sticks her nose in every thing and that what helped her to discover kantaro’s secret, when she accidentally saw him calling astroganga. Dr.Hoshi told her every thing about kantaro and astroganga, and she decided to help.

OFFICER. KANJI: He is Raay’s father and also an Inspector in the international scientific poleis. He is a brave commander who fought the destroyers in many ways. He also destroyed a few spaceships in a battle using a strong jet. I thing it couldn’t be a problem if Dr.Hoshi told him the secret of astroganga.

THE DESTROYERS

They all look the same. Their ranks is by number. Destroyer 1 in the Head commander.

They are some kind of Parasites. They don't have their own planet and wander in space looking for planets to suck dray.

Destroyer Hell

One of a kind destroyer, he never shows with the other destroyers. He just showed up to destroy Jongar.

He is very powerful and does not look like any of the other destroyers. I think he was just pure evil! He showed up in episode 25, and I think this is the only episode where Jongar used a weapon!!!!
