ASHITA NO JOE , ROCKY JOE, Tomorrow's Joe, Al-Batal

ROCKY JOE
A.K.A
ALBATAL

A sports anime. The story of Joe Yabuki, a homeless orphan boy, who met his archrival, a boxer Toru Rikiishi in a youth prison and became a boxer.

Ashita no Joe 2 (or Tomorrow's Joe 2) is an anime that follows the life of a boxer, Joe Yabuki. However, the anime is far more than just a boxing genre cliche. This is hardly Rocky and Joe isn't an all winning champ. You'll also find that it's very dramatic and realistic.

Ashita no Joe is a classic in Japan... When one of the main characters in the anime was killed an actual funeral was held in Japan!

This series takes off where the Ashita no Joe movie (also subtitled by Liquid Anime) ends. The movie was a recap (compilation of clips) of the 1970s series that was made before Ashita no Joe 2 (1981) to enable people to watch this series without having to see all 79 episodes of the first series.

After the tragic events at the end of series 1, Joe once again found himself aimlessly roaming the streets of Tokyo, trying to forget or overcome his sorrows. He finally goes back to boxing after nearly 6 month of wanderlust and hence he again begins his way as a professional boxer despite the obstacles. What really make Ashita no Joe a superb series are not only the great boxing matches, but also, and more importantly, the feelings of the boxers inside and outside these matches. It is what beyond the matches that really matters, the reasons behind the acts, the daily life of a boxer and the different perception of boxing. The art style had a good facelift and is more solid here but since this one is also old, don't expect something super-beautiful. I really enjoy this series so much, especially knowing that there aren't that much boxing anime out there.

.This series does a good job of standing on it's own. It's got a much higher budget than the first series did and it shows. The series is 49 episodes long.
